Lakme gel stylist

Posted by Buls on 9:00 PM in , , , ,
Lakme has launched many new products recently. What is significant is that the price points are much higher. Till now, it was an affordable brand... not anymore with the new launches. Many women are not happy with this. I second the thought.

I have read a lot about the Lakme Gel Stylist nail paints- good and bad. I didn't want to spend 400 bucks on Lakme nail paints. That kind of money is reserved for Inglot.

I finally picked up the nude shade- Caramel Melt. The others didn't seem too unique. I am sure I have a similar shade in Revlon.

Below manicure has been done with the Lakme gel stylist and L'Oreal color riche Le Vernis 822.

My views on the nail paint:
- Streaky
- Needed 2 coats atleast
- Did not dry fast
- The consistency is strictly ok... nothing great
- Does not feel like gel. I have the Inglot gel top coat and it gives a very polished look to any nail paint. Not with this one

Will I re-purchase? No... never. Beauty bloggers who have given these nail paints awesome reviews should close down their blogs. They are deceiving their readers.

Don't bother spending 400 bucks on this one.

Hands and Feet

I went to Dabur New U stores today and the hand and feet mask caught my eye. I picked them up. I think there is a dearth of products for hands and foot care. Brands are launching new things... but not exciting enough. How many foot soaks are there in the market? Exactly!!!

The hand mask is of the brand- Beauty Formula. It is priced at Rs 175 and can be used once. It contains 1 pair of gloves with a gel inside. You need to wear it for 20-30 mins. It claims to make hands smooth and improve the texture. It has peach extract and shea butter.

This is what the gloves look like. The size will fit anyone. I put it on for 30 mins, after which my hands felt very soft and moisturized. There was some gel, which is non sticky and smells peachy, and I rubbed the hands together. It was instantly absorbed. My hands are still feeling soft.
It is expensive for 1 time use but I don't mind using it once in a month. It does a better job than some of the hand creams. A must have for winters.

The foot mask is also from Beauty Formulas priced at Rs 175 for 1 pair. I put it on my feet and they instantly felt relaxed. On removing them after 30 mins, there was white gel on my feet. I massaged it in and my feet felt soft. It smells like green apple since there is apple extract. My feet felt like they would after a pedicure in the salon.

The pair will fit any size.

These Beauty Formulas hand and feet mask are a must try. You will find them in Dabur New U stores.

Winter is knocking. It is not cold enough for overcoats or jackets but blazers and cardigans need to be pulled out.
For Friday casual, I wanted to wear all black with my jakaas parrot green blazer. I could not find an acceptable black top and decided to wear navy blue stripes.

Jeans- Levis (3 years old), Top- Done by none (donebynone.com), Blazer- Forever 21
I accessorized  with silver neckpiece from Forever 21 and earrings (bought many years back from somewhere).

This week's nails

Posted by Buls on 8:49 AM in ,
I have only 1 OPI nail color... because it is an effort to find them. They also cost a bomb (Rs 520). Ok, I know... I buy Inglot... why not OPI? Ok, I guess I will buy more.

I love this shade. It is called Chop Sticking to my story. It is neither true orange nor true rust. Somewhere in between.

It goes on completely opaque in one coat and I love that. Only problem- it seems to have become slightly think. I am used to my nail paints lasting years. Not happy about that.

Will I re-purchase? In another shade, Yes. But, if that also becomes thick then it is a deal breaker.

Make up posts

Posted by Buls on 8:44 AM in , , ,
I don't do posts on looks, make up etc because I am a normal, working person. This blog is a hobby. It has taken me years and hours of practice just to get a basic make up look perfect. I don't apply elaborate eye shadows on normal days (who does???). Only beauty bloggers or celebs do that. Also, I don't have the time. I have a full time job, gym sessions, hubby, house etc. So, yes.... make up posts are far and few between. Plus, I don't own a DSLR. I have a normal digicam which works well and my phone has an awesome cam (Nokia Lumia 820). I managed to click a good pic of my blush yesterday and decided to post a review.

Mac lip and cheek tint- Evening Stroll. This was part of a limited collection launched last year. I liked how easy to wear it seemed and picked it up.
It is a nice pink- dark pink... rani pink (if you know what I mean).
I think I bought this for Rs 1300 for 13 ml.

Without Flash. Looks a little dull here.

With Flash. This is the actual color.

The blush can also be used as a lip tint but I don't really use it that way. The product is smooth and easily comes on the fingers when swiped. It does not feel sticky or hard.

Below is a swatch- without flash. On top is unblended and bottom is blended.

With flash.

You need to apply it with fingers and then blend it out. I generally use a brush since that gives me more control.

On the face it does not look very pigmented since it blends out. That is why it is a cheek tint and not a normal blush. It gives a nice glow and color to the face. I have applied a few layers below and yet it seems sheer.

The tint lasts for 4-5 hours which is good because all blushes last that much on me since I have a very oily skin. The tint works very well in winters but in summer it is another story. It makes my face looks greasy and makes the imperfections stand out.
As a winter product, this works well for all skin types but for summer, oily skin people avoid.

Will I re-purchase? Sure. Finishing this one itself will be a task.

Haul

Posted by Buls on 10:38 PM in , , , ,

I rushed to the Clinique store after work and picked these up.
- Clinique even better concealer. MRP Rs 1650. I have a Clarins under eye corrector which is not the correct shade. I picked up this one in orange color. Hope it works on my under eyes.
- Clinique even better compact: MRP Rs 2100. This is a cream based compact which turns into a powder after application. It has heavy coverage which makes it perfect for touch ups. I prefer medium to heavy coverage since my skin has a lot of problems.

Reviews will be up soon.

October Vellvette Box

Posted by Buls on 10:30 PM in , , , , , , , , ,
I just received my Vellvette box and am very happy with their delivery timeline this month.

It is a navy blue bag this time which contains the following:
- Full size products of Vantiv lemon shower gel- MRP Rs 214 for 180 ml
- Full size Vantiv moisturising shampoo- MRP Rs 187 for 250 ml
- Florelle wet and dry blush - MRP Rs 750
- Origins make a difference rejuvenating treatment lotion - MRP Rs 2000 for 150 ml

I have mixed feelings about the bag. I like the navy blue bag which will come handy. The shampoo and body lotion are manufactured by some company in Dehradun. Isn't the bag supposed to contain only 'premium' products?
I could not find any reviews for the Florelle blush online.
Thankfully, for Origins I did find reviews but the it is just a sample size. Don't know how long it will last.

I am wondering if the bag is worth the 500 bucks I am paying.

I don't understand how other bloggers can rave and appreciate these products. It has become a fad without actually evaluating anything.

Where have the Clarins, Clinique, Dior products gone?

Maybelline Color Show

Posted by Buls on 8:25 PM in , ,
I was very happy to see the Maybelline Color Show nail paints in the stores. Apparently, there are some 40 shades launched but I saw only 15-20 shades in the store.

This shade is called Miss you Blue and is priced at Rs 75 for 6 ml. I love how cheap the nail paints are. Sure, they are only 6 ml but that works out to be better 'coz I rarely repeat nail paints... maybe 2-3 times in a year.

This shade is light blue with shimmer (not glitter). It is a different shade and not everyone may like it. I do not own any color like this.

The nail paint applies opaque in 1 coat itself. I have applied 2 coats below. The paint is for a good consistency- neither too thick nor too runny.

And here is the best part. It lasts 4-5 days. Below is the pic of my left hand where there is minor chipping on 2 nails. It also dries quite fast.

I cannot think of even 1 negative in these nail paints. They are superb products at cheap prices. Love them.

Inglot... like this shade.

L'Oreal new nail stickers

Posted by Buls on 10:43 PM in , ,
I came across the new nail stickers at Shoppers Stop the other day. I was excited. They seemed better than the previous ones. You can read the review here.
The SA applied one on my nail and I liked it. The new designs are funky and more daily wear. I bought the pink and purple one for Rs 299.

The nail sticker is thinner than the older ones and so applies more easily. The best part about this is... you can either apply the pink side or purple side since the excess can be cut off.

I loved them while applying but... then this happened. Just like last time, the top part started peeling off. Initially, it was 'coz I had applied Sally Hansen base coat. I removed them and applied new ones. But, they did not stay for even a day. And this is on my left hand... the state of the nail art on my right hand was worse.

Not happy at all. I still prefer Revlon nail stickers.

This week's nail art

Posted by Buls on 8:09 PM in , , , , ,
My hubby was not home this weekend and I had ample time to myself.

This is what I did. It was time consuming because I planned to do only half the nail and then decided to cover the whole nail with spots.

How to do it:
- Apply base coat. I used Sally Hansen's miracle cure
- Apply base nail paint. I used Colorbar's white shade first but the nail paint has dried. I removed it and then used Inglot's white shade
- Use a toothpick to make dots. I did not have any (keep forgetting to buy them)... used the brush from Inglot's nail art pen.
- I made the dots with different shades of nail paints - all Inglot
- Apply Inglot gel top coat

How to style a plaid shirt

Posted by Buls on 6:30 PM in , , , , , , ,
Plaid shirts in Zara cost 2k (in sale). I decided to buy one from Sarojini Nagar.... my favourite place for all things trendy.
Instead of wearing it with jeans, this is how I styled it. I like to wear things differently every time.. makes me more interesting.

Left: Plaid shirt- Sarojini Nagar, white pants/leggings- Vero Moda, shoes- Forever21 (only for 600 bucks), bag- Zara

Right: Plaid shirt- Sarojini Nagar, black skirt- Globus (atleast 2-3 years old... and still going strong), shoes- Inc 5.

Empties

I have/am going to finish so many products this month that I decided to blog about them.

1) Nivea lemon and oil body wash: MRP Rs 165 for 250 ml. I bought this for my brother when he had come to stay for a few days. I would never have tried it otherwise. After he left, I used it to finish it off. A good product. It smells of lemon (obviously) and lathers well. It also consists of small yellow beads giving it an attractive look. The bottle is travel friendly and the flip cap does not open up while travelling.
Will I re-purchase? Yes. Why not.

2) The Nature's Co Peppermint face wash: MRP Rs 325 for 125 ml. I bought this when Vellvette sent me a coupon for a spa at their store. I visited their store in R City, Ghatkopar. This was a forced purchase. Details here. Anyway, I have been using it for the past few months. The face wash is for oily skin. It is slow to lather specially if face is already oily and smells like spirit... you know, the product which doctors use to disinfect before giving an injection. Yuck!!! On applying, it tingles in a good way. After washing the skin does not feel squeaky clean... it does not feel dirty but I don't get the squeaky sound which is a test of cleanliness. This may not be a bad thing but I am so used to judging cleanliness by this that I prefer it that way. The face wash is ok. Nothing great. And the price is a hindrance for me.
Will I re-purchase? No.

3) Baby Lips Coral Crush: MRP Rs 125. The Maybelline Baby Lips lip balms do stand out in the market. I have bought one in every shade. Finally, I finished 1 lip balm and can now open a new pack. They make my lips smooth and keep them moisturized. They did not work when my lips became very dry and damaged but I think that was an extreme reaction to some lipstick. For regular usage, they are good but if you are looking for specific care/concern this may not be the ideal product.
Will I re-purchase? Of course.

4) Clinique Clarifying Lotion : MRP Rs 1400 for 200 ml. This toner has lasted me for around 2 months. The brand does have a bigger bottle which is cheaper but would be difficult to carry while travelling. This bottle is sturdy and travel friendly. I wish they had 100 ml bottles to carry while travelling. The SA at the store told me it is a clarifying lotion. It tones but also removes dead skin cells. I wish I could see the effect on my skin. Earlier, I used Vichy Normaderm toner. I don't think Clinique lotion has made any significant difference to my skin. It did not stop breakouts (I get 1 pimple every month). I soak a cotton with the lotion and dab onto my face. The product tingles a little and may burn if there is a cut on skin. Also, it has a lot of alcohol and smells like it. I am so confused... the SA at Clinique tells me that alcohol is good for skin while the one at Keihl's tells me that it is not good for sensitive skin. Arrgh!!! I am still trying to figure it out.
Will I re-purchase? No. I will be trying Keihls caldula toner next.

5) Garnier deo Absolute Dry: This is my favorite antiperspirant. MRP Rs 150 for 150 ml. It is a little expensive compared to other deos in the market but I love it. Earlier, my underarms would smell and the deodorant (Fa, Charlie, Reebok) would add to the smell and make it worse. Plus, they started making my underarms dark. Oh, how I hated those days. Then, I discovered Garnier deos. I do not smell at all now. The deos does not smell too great but it is not bad. The point is that it does its job well. It does not darken my underarms and I am so glad.
Will I re-purchase? Yes. I have been using this for years and have not even tried any other deo.

6) Bourjois magic nail polish remover: MRP Rs 400 (I think, it has been months since I bought this). This nail polish remover reduced my nail care time drastically. No more turning off the fan... soaking cotton... closing the lid fast so that the remover does not disappear... rubbing.. rubbing... and then repeating for each nail. You just have to dip your nail and turn 1-2 times and ta da... nail polish gone. It has a very sweet fragrance which gets on my nails. I don't always like the fragrance. The liquid is non sticky. I have been using it for months and it got ruined when I used it to remove glitter nail paints. Now, I am using it to remove only glitter nail paints and Colorbar ultimate nail polish remover (similar one minus the smell) for regular nail paints.
Will I re-purchase? Maybe not. I think the Colorbar one is better ... it does not have the fragrance.

7) The Body Shop Satsuma Body Mist: MRP Rs 745 for 100 ml. It smells just the way I like it... like fruits. I prefer fruity fragrance to anything else. It has lasted me months. I apply it on my body after a bath and it smells good. On the downside, it is a mist so cannot be applied on clothes. Plus the lasting power is low. You can smell it as soon as I apply it but not later.
Will I re-purchase? I don't know. I am using the Victoria's Secret body mist and it lasts slightly longer.

8) Sally Hansen Insta Brite: Rs 775 for 13.3 ml. Yep, it is damn expensive. I bought it 'coz my nails were yellowing due to excessive use of nail polish. I thought this would help. But nope. It is the biggest disappointment. I apply it before nail polish but it is transparent and does not whiten the nails or cover up the yellowing at all. Hate it. Have used it as base coat to finish it off.
Will I re-purchase? No. I am trying out Inglot nail whitener.

9) Colorbar nail polish remover. MRP Rs 125 for 110 ml. I am a fan of this product and this brand. This is the best nail polish remover I have used. It beats Lakme also. It removes nail paints quickly. The bottle is plastic and travel friendly. It is also acetone free.
Will I re-purchase? Yes. Have started using the next bottle.

10) Kerastase Elixir Ultime: MRP Rs 2300 for 125 ml. It is very expensive but I bought it at a discount. Love this product. It smells of coconut which I do not like but the fragrance does not linger. 2 pumps are required to cover the entire hair. It gives a healthy shine and reduces frizz. I use it on towel dried hair and apply more on the ends than on roots. If used too much, it may make the hair look oily but does not feel sticky at all. If there is one product you can splurge on, this should be it.
Will I re-purchase? Yes. I already have a back up bottle.

11) Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara: My sister sent me this sample along with other goodies from USA. It has lasted me months. I love it. It gives volume and length to lashes. I would love to buy the full product if I already didn't have so many mascaras. Someday... when I finish off my current stash.
