Color Blocking

Colour blocking as a trend has been around for quite sometime and many women have started wearing this trend.

What is colour block?

This is how I define it:
Close your eyes. Can you imagine Govinda wearing it in a David Dhawan movie? If yes, then it is colour blocking. Nobody colour blocks better than Govinda.

On a serious note- it is about wearing 2 bold colours together.
I started experimenting with this trend 3 years back and prefer it over matchy-matchy anyday. It is not that difficult but one does need oodles of confidence to adopt it. It also needs a little out of the box thinking.

Here are some of my favourite colour blocked looks.

Pink and green? Yes. Possible. And it looks good too. What stands out more- pink and white/black or pink and green?
Dress : Promod
Footwear, clutch : Zara

Please forgive the picture quality of this one but it is a 2.5 years old pic when I was in Mumbai.
Blue and red? Why not? Looks good.
Shirt- Wills lifestyle
Skirt- Vero Moda
Footwear - Hush Puppies (don't mind the terrible footwear, it was rainy season and I had to commute on the train)

Colour block your footwear with the top/bottom. I have paired a blue top with mint green and the white in between tones down the look.
Top - Forever 21
Pants - Vero Moda
Footwear - Promod

This is one of my favourite looks. Again, I have paired red with blue and toned it down with nude pumps.
Crop top tie shirt - Forever 21
Skirt - Koovs
Footwear - Charles and Keith

And here is how to pep up your green dress. This look will get you all the attention in the world, for all the right reasons. A woman who can pair green with neon orange is all kinds of gutsy, or atleast she is pretending to be.
Dress - Splash
Footwear - Asos

I love this look. It is class, all the way. And since I live in a city which has winters, I have blazers in all colours. This is my only printed blazer.
Blazer, skirt - Zara
Top - Promod
Footwear - Vanilla Moon

I remember KC was not too happy with these shoes with the dress but I decided to wear them anyway. Why stop at a multi coloured dress? Why not take it further with neon shoes too?
Dress - Global Desi
Shoes - Asos
Sling bag - Promod

This isn't exactly a colour block but more of a pop of colour. Pair boring colours like blue, black, white, gray and brown with bright colours and pep up your boring desk job.
Top - Promod
Skirt - Wills Lifestyle
Footwear - Bata

After this pic, the footwear broke and I had to come back home to change them. No wonder the website where I bought them from shut down.
Dress - Sarojini Nagar
Footwear - Done by None

This is my most favourite look of recent times. If you separate these pieces, they are very boring- checked shirt, black skirt, red pumps but wear them together and they look perfect. I also tend to match my belt with my footwear to give an outfit a pop of colour.
Shirt - Wills Lifestyle
Skirt - Promod
Footwear - Carlton London

There is so much going on in this outfit- first I have matched the shorts and the shirt and then I have colour blocked with pink. And there all these polka dots which are so cute.
Shirt- Forever 21
Shorts - Asos
Footwear - Rockport

This is true colour blocking. Red and pastel yellow which has been toned down with a black top.
Blazer, Top - Promod
Red jeans - Van Heusen
Footwear - Enroute

I guess blue and red are my favourite colour blocking colours. Pair the print with a plain dress to tone it down.
Blazer - Zara
Dress - Promod
Boots - Local store in Breach Candy, Mumbai

 What do you think?
Do you have any more ideas on colour blocking?
How have you adopted this trend?

Culottes- my favorite trend right now

Posted by Buls on 10:59 AM in , , , , , , , , , , ,
Culottes have been around since the 60s or 70s but it is only now they are getting the spotlight. I love, love, love this trend because it is so comfortable and easy. It doesn't matter what your body type is, anyone can carry them off. You can dress them up or down, as you please. You can wear them as formal or casuals. And there are so many options in the market.

It is strange, though, that the only women I know who sport culottes are bloggers or on instagram. I don't know any female in real life who wears them, except me, of course.

If there is something new you add to your wardrobe this year, please let them be culottes. I just spotted just amazing culottes in Zara's new collection as well though they are very overpriced.

Anyone else do this thing where they go on a buying spree and buy clothes of only one type? It happens to me, whether it is jumpsuits or rompers or skorts or culottes... I end up buying as many as I can from different brands till I have enough.

Here is how I have worn them:

Culottes : Global Desi
Top : H&M
Footwear : Bata

 Culottes : Global Desi
 Tee : UCB
 Footwear : Charles and Keith

Culottes : Global Desi
Tee : Sarojini Nagar
 Floaters : Lee Cooper

Culottes : Sisley (available on sale on Myntra/Jabong)
Crop top : Global Desi
Footwear : Inc 5

Culottes, top : Asos
Foowear : Zara

How old is your oldest item of clothing?

Posted by Buls on 5:16 PM in , , , ,
Mine is a top I bought for less than 400 bucks from Azad Mini Market, Ahmedabad around 12 years back. Yep, I have a top which is 12 years old and am still wearing it.
How weird is it that expensive clothes from high street brands like Zara barely last a year and unbranded stuff can lasts years.
Of course, I have gone through size changes over the years but the top has stayed.

This is how I wore it recently. I find this top very sexy and end up pairing it with very boring bottoms. I added a pop of colour through my footwear.

Grey skirt : Zara

Footwear : Charles and Keith

And this is how I wore it few months back.
Grey trousers : Wills Lifestyle
Pumps : Charles and Keith

So, how old is your oldest item of clothing?

One dress, 2 ways

Posted by Buls on 10:23 PM in , , ,
Black dress: Koovs, bought in sale
When I bought this dress few months back, it wouldn't fit me. After some weight loss in April, I tried it on again and viola it fit well with the help of shapewear.

This is how I wore it in April:
Footwear and sling bag : Promod

I am exceptionally proud of today's look. I try and wear each article of clothing in a different way each time. That is what makes it interesting.
I bought the crop top from Forever21 atleast 2 years back and it has been lying in my closet untouched. I rarely discard clothes I haven't worn. This crop top is too tight and short to wear on its own. What was I thinking when I bought it? And it comes to my waist, making me look broad and highlighting my fat. But today, I, finally managed to inaugurate it. I wore it over the dress and it completely transformed the dress.

Footwear : Promod
Please don't mind the hair. I didn't have time to do anything with them today.

I love Maxis

Posted by Buls on 10:01 PM in , , , , , ,
Maxis are difficult to wear. If you are lean, it is not an issue but if you are not in perfect shape they can make you look not-so-perfect. I don't like fat showing through my clothes and prefer to wear slightly loose clothes rather than tight fitting ones. All these conditions make it difficult to find the perfect maxi.
I bought this maxi from the sale at Chemistry during a visit to Kolkata few months back. The footwear is from Charles and Keith.
I am also wearing a shapewear slip from Marks and Spencer- my go to brand for lingerie.

This maxi makes me look curvier... maybe it is the horizontal stripes but that is ok. I miss Italy because I didn't have to worry about cleavage and bras peeking out. This maxi needs a little care in that department.

What do you think?

The Votes are in

Posted by Buls on 9:52 PM
8 people have voted that I re-start this blog Vs 7 people who didn't want me to. So, with that one extra vote am making this effort.
I will start off with outfit posts. If you follow me on instagram, this will be a repetition but please have patience. Slowly and steadily, I will talk about more stuff.

Rules for the blog... which I have mentioned earlier:
- I will not be buying stuff for reviews. This makes no sense to me and is an absolute waste of money
- I am not paid for anything I say on the blog
- My outfit posts are what I wear on a daily basis. Unlike most fashion bloggers, I don't wear clothes to click photos for the blog.
- Don't expect any make up tutorials because I suck at them. And who the hell wears eye shadows during the day.... Ok. Ok. In Dehi malls, women do. But I don't. I threw away all my eye shadows 2 years back
- I use my phone camera and will try and use the DSLR

Let us start then.
