Color Blocking

Colour blocking as a trend has been around for quite sometime and many women have started wearing this trend.

What is colour block?

This is how I define it:
Close your eyes. Can you imagine Govinda wearing it in a David Dhawan movie? If yes, then it is colour blocking. Nobody colour blocks better than Govinda.

On a serious note- it is about wearing 2 bold colours together.
I started experimenting with this trend 3 years back and prefer it over matchy-matchy anyday. It is not that difficult but one does need oodles of confidence to adopt it. It also needs a little out of the box thinking.

Here are some of my favourite colour blocked looks.

Pink and green? Yes. Possible. And it looks good too. What stands out more- pink and white/black or pink and green?
Dress : Promod
Footwear, clutch : Zara

Please forgive the picture quality of this one but it is a 2.5 years old pic when I was in Mumbai.
Blue and red? Why not? Looks good.
Shirt- Wills lifestyle
Skirt- Vero Moda
Footwear - Hush Puppies (don't mind the terrible footwear, it was rainy season and I had to commute on the train)

Colour block your footwear with the top/bottom. I have paired a blue top with mint green and the white in between tones down the look.
Top - Forever 21
Pants - Vero Moda
Footwear - Promod

This is one of my favourite looks. Again, I have paired red with blue and toned it down with nude pumps.
Crop top tie shirt - Forever 21
Skirt - Koovs
Footwear - Charles and Keith

And here is how to pep up your green dress. This look will get you all the attention in the world, for all the right reasons. A woman who can pair green with neon orange is all kinds of gutsy, or atleast she is pretending to be.
Dress - Splash
Footwear - Asos

I love this look. It is class, all the way. And since I live in a city which has winters, I have blazers in all colours. This is my only printed blazer.
Blazer, skirt - Zara
Top - Promod
Footwear - Vanilla Moon

I remember KC was not too happy with these shoes with the dress but I decided to wear them anyway. Why stop at a multi coloured dress? Why not take it further with neon shoes too?
Dress - Global Desi
Shoes - Asos
Sling bag - Promod

This isn't exactly a colour block but more of a pop of colour. Pair boring colours like blue, black, white, gray and brown with bright colours and pep up your boring desk job.
Top - Promod
Skirt - Wills Lifestyle
Footwear - Bata

After this pic, the footwear broke and I had to come back home to change them. No wonder the website where I bought them from shut down.
Dress - Sarojini Nagar
Footwear - Done by None

This is my most favourite look of recent times. If you separate these pieces, they are very boring- checked shirt, black skirt, red pumps but wear them together and they look perfect. I also tend to match my belt with my footwear to give an outfit a pop of colour.
Shirt - Wills Lifestyle
Skirt - Promod
Footwear - Carlton London

There is so much going on in this outfit- first I have matched the shorts and the shirt and then I have colour blocked with pink. And there all these polka dots which are so cute.
Shirt- Forever 21
Shorts - Asos
Footwear - Rockport

This is true colour blocking. Red and pastel yellow which has been toned down with a black top.
Blazer, Top - Promod
Red jeans - Van Heusen
Footwear - Enroute

I guess blue and red are my favourite colour blocking colours. Pair the print with a plain dress to tone it down.
Blazer - Zara
Dress - Promod
Boots - Local store in Breach Candy, Mumbai

 What do you think?
Do you have any more ideas on colour blocking?
How have you adopted this trend?

How old is your oldest item of clothing?

Posted by Buls on 5:16 PM in , , , ,
Mine is a top I bought for less than 400 bucks from Azad Mini Market, Ahmedabad around 12 years back. Yep, I have a top which is 12 years old and am still wearing it.
How weird is it that expensive clothes from high street brands like Zara barely last a year and unbranded stuff can lasts years.
Of course, I have gone through size changes over the years but the top has stayed.

This is how I wore it recently. I find this top very sexy and end up pairing it with very boring bottoms. I added a pop of colour through my footwear.

Grey skirt : Zara

Footwear : Charles and Keith

And this is how I wore it few months back.
Grey trousers : Wills Lifestyle
Pumps : Charles and Keith

So, how old is your oldest item of clothing?

OOTD

Hi... its been a long time... and I so many new things lined up. I get kinda lazy... what with 4 blogs and all.

I had stopped the OOTD posts because of the lack of a good full length mirror. I am still looking for one. Until then, all the clicks are in my office loo with the phone cam. We (hubby and me) just bought a DSLR and so there will be more posts.

Sorry for the awkward pose. I love the new trend in blogosphere... of wearing a shirt underneath a sleeveless dress. This works for winter.
Top- Promod, Dress- woollen bought from fashionandyou.com, shoes- Hush Puppies. The dress is very warm and is part of the winter closet only. It does not fit too well... but its not bad.

V day look- I did not buy anything new for V day since I have enough. I wore these shorts over the weekend and wanted to wear it once before before throwing them in laundry.
Head to toe- lace top (with black camisole underneath), pink shorts, leggings, peep toes boots (very comfy)- Forever21. My earlier purchases from this store (like these) are very good. Recently, whatever I have bought has lasted a few months only. Quality has declined majorly. That is quite sad because I love how stylish the clothes are.
Don't mind the hair... the ends need a trim badly. The perm and color have damaged it.

I wore this to comicon last weekend. My hubby kept insisting I wear a tee shirt with cartoons but I chose this. I bought this dress from Globus months back. Finally wore it with leggings, a Levis jeans jacket and a Nine West sling bag.
Don't mind the love handles... they will be gone in a few months

I love this look. A cheery mini skirt from Forever21 paired with black shirt from Wills Lifestyle, Asos blazer, grey houndstooth stockings and grey pumps from Promod.
I don't even remember buying this skirt... the cons of being a shopholic. The black shirt is many years old. Ideally, I should discard it but it is so handy... can be paired with anything.
I love winter dressing... I can wear the tiniest clothes paired with stockings/leggings. I am waiting for the day when that skirt can be worn in summer... meaning, when I lose enough weight. Hopefully, this summer.

A winter look when it is not too cold.
Black trousers- Promod
Blue woollen top- Monte Carlo
Jacket- Globus
Pink wedges- Miss Sixty
I love the jacket... it is shiny... and can be paired with a monochrome look. The wedges are very heavy and kill my feet. I only wear them at work when there is no running around.

I love this blazer... it is a statement piece. I tried an all blue look and I think it looked good.
Blazer, jeans- Zara
Top- Aadro from fashionandyou.com

Thats it then... I will come back with better pictures and more looks.

Style section

Posted by Buls on 9:14 PM in , , , ,
I am starting a new section- style section.

I am not a stylist... I had the worst dressing sense which has improved over the years. I never knew I have an experimental streak. For the longest time I believed I prefer comfort over fashion. My stay in Delhi changed all that. It is truly the fashion capital. Women are dressed to the hilt whether at work or home or at a party. I really appreciate that. I have been researching a lot... I read blogs... magazines and browse shops. I am well versed with many brands. And I shop everywhere... malls... stores... streets. My favourite street for shopping is Sarojini Nagar... it has its own trends and style.

Colour Blocking:
This is a big trend right now but does require guts. Also, there is a thin line between colour blocking and being Govinda-ish. I think the difference is confidence. Someday I am going to wear red and yellow together.

This is what I wore today. My natural instinct would be to pair a blue skirt with grey/white/black top but the numerous style blogs I read have inspired me. I went with the red shirt.
- Red shirt with dark blue beetles- Wills Lifestyle
- Light blue skirt- Vero Moda
- Black ballets- Hush Puppies
I love the skirt... it is so comfy and I do not need to wear a slip underneath. I was looking for a black one but could not find in my size. The footwear is just for practical reasons since it rains all the time. If I had a choice, I would not pair this look with black footwear.

The outfit has been inspired from below @ styledrive

Please note:
- I will only use my phone to click pictures so please excuse the quality
- I am not into accessories... actually, picking clothes and putting on make up leaves me with little time to accessorize
- The objective is to give an idea on how different looks can be created. It is about getting out of the rut and trying something new
