Color Blocking

Colour blocking as a trend has been around for quite sometime and many women have started wearing this trend.

What is colour block?

This is how I define it:
Close your eyes. Can you imagine Govinda wearing it in a David Dhawan movie? If yes, then it is colour blocking. Nobody colour blocks better than Govinda.

On a serious note- it is about wearing 2 bold colours together.
I started experimenting with this trend 3 years back and prefer it over matchy-matchy anyday. It is not that difficult but one does need oodles of confidence to adopt it. It also needs a little out of the box thinking.

Here are some of my favourite colour blocked looks.

Pink and green? Yes. Possible. And it looks good too. What stands out more- pink and white/black or pink and green?
Dress : Promod
Footwear, clutch : Zara

Please forgive the picture quality of this one but it is a 2.5 years old pic when I was in Mumbai.
Blue and red? Why not? Looks good.
Shirt- Wills lifestyle
Skirt- Vero Moda
Footwear - Hush Puppies (don't mind the terrible footwear, it was rainy season and I had to commute on the train)

Colour block your footwear with the top/bottom. I have paired a blue top with mint green and the white in between tones down the look.
Top - Forever 21
Pants - Vero Moda
Footwear - Promod

This is one of my favourite looks. Again, I have paired red with blue and toned it down with nude pumps.
Crop top tie shirt - Forever 21
Skirt - Koovs
Footwear - Charles and Keith

And here is how to pep up your green dress. This look will get you all the attention in the world, for all the right reasons. A woman who can pair green with neon orange is all kinds of gutsy, or atleast she is pretending to be.
Dress - Splash
Footwear - Asos

I love this look. It is class, all the way. And since I live in a city which has winters, I have blazers in all colours. This is my only printed blazer.
Blazer, skirt - Zara
Top - Promod
Footwear - Vanilla Moon

I remember KC was not too happy with these shoes with the dress but I decided to wear them anyway. Why stop at a multi coloured dress? Why not take it further with neon shoes too?
Dress - Global Desi
Shoes - Asos
Sling bag - Promod

This isn't exactly a colour block but more of a pop of colour. Pair boring colours like blue, black, white, gray and brown with bright colours and pep up your boring desk job.
Top - Promod
Skirt - Wills Lifestyle
Footwear - Bata

After this pic, the footwear broke and I had to come back home to change them. No wonder the website where I bought them from shut down.
Dress - Sarojini Nagar
Footwear - Done by None

This is my most favourite look of recent times. If you separate these pieces, they are very boring- checked shirt, black skirt, red pumps but wear them together and they look perfect. I also tend to match my belt with my footwear to give an outfit a pop of colour.
Shirt - Wills Lifestyle
Skirt - Promod
Footwear - Carlton London

There is so much going on in this outfit- first I have matched the shorts and the shirt and then I have colour blocked with pink. And there all these polka dots which are so cute.
Shirt- Forever 21
Shorts - Asos
Footwear - Rockport

This is true colour blocking. Red and pastel yellow which has been toned down with a black top.
Blazer, Top - Promod
Red jeans - Van Heusen
Footwear - Enroute

I guess blue and red are my favourite colour blocking colours. Pair the print with a plain dress to tone it down.
Blazer - Zara
Dress - Promod
Boots - Local store in Breach Candy, Mumbai

 What do you think?
Do you have any more ideas on colour blocking?
How have you adopted this trend?

What I wore today

Posted by Buls on 11:18 PM in , , , ,
I came across a pic of a lady wearing a maroon top and grey/brown skirt and a maroon lipstick (matching the top)... loved it so much, I decided to try the same look. I don't think I would have paired maroon and brown together since both are dull colours and I love brights.

The top is from Promod- bought it during the previous sale. The skirt is from Splash, bought during current sale. I really like this skirt... it has pleats (please don't mind the creases).
Since it was raining I had to go with my Hush Puppies flats. On a regular day I would have paired it with a different footwear... maybe sandals or heels.
To brighten up the look, I paired a maroon lipstick keeping the rest of the make up very simple. It really stood out among the dull colours.

I really like this combo- very apt for office wear.

How to make slouchy pants work in office on Friday

Posted by Buls on 9:22 PM in , , , ,
I have a flight in the evening and decided to be comfy. Even on Fridays, I am not a tee and jeans kinda gal... Not anymore. I either wear a tee with a skirt or shirt with jeans or add a vest with jeans and tee. I never really dress "casual" unless I am feeling damn lazy.

Today I am wearing pants from Splash. I wanted them in black but they didn't have size, a formal top from Only and a funky vest from Quirkbox. I love the vest, it is so quirky. To elevate slouchy pants... Pair them with a formal top and heels. The idea is to draw attention away from them and yet look different.
Ignore the footwear. In an ideal world, I would have paired this with heels.
